DiPasquale's Anniversay Dinner

Updated: Monday, April 7 2014, 02:30 PM EDT
On Sunday afternoon, some 60 lucky patrons of DiPasquale's Italian Marketplace in Highlandtown were treated to a seven-course Italian meal featuring the cuisine and wines of the Abruzzo region. The occasion was to mark the 100th anniversary of the Gough Street stronghold, a popular Italian market and deli. The dining area was cleared to create an even bigger space than usual, to accommodate the capacity-number of guests. The feeling was intimate, as though being part of the traditional DiPasquale family meal, and indeed, many members of the clan were present, both dining and serving. The meal got underway with deep-fried stuffed olives, followed by mushroom rice balls, then crepes stuffed with scallops in seafood broth, then platters of fried rabbit, tender lamb and herb-crusted pork tenderloin, all served with several types of traditional vegetables. A classic Italian salad followed, then a chocolate tiramisu, then shots of limoncello. Between courses, guests were serenaded with traditional Italian folk songs, all performed on accordion by several members of the family. Joe DiPasquale, wife Sabrina, and sister-in-law Maria all spoke warmly about the family business and mingled with the appreciative diners. Guests at the dinner included Celeste Corsaro, Andy Norris, Filippo Lapides, Terry Ann Hearn, Willis Magill and Tracy Sutton.
