Weather Alert

It's looking like a shower possible for get-away Friday with temperatures in the low-mid 80s.  Saturday, expect rain and clouds for July 4th and also cooler temperatures in the 70s, but hopefully it'll all clear for fireworks.  On Sunday, mostly sunny skies will return with drier 80s back!

Flower Mart

Updated: Friday, May 3 2013, 04:42 PM EDT

Gorgeous, sunny weather greeted day one of Flower Mart this year, as crowds ringed the Washington Monument in Mt. Vernon Square. Ladies in springtime hats, nattily dressed gents, and kiddies sipping Lemon Sticks all strolled the cobblestone streets, while gazing at wares in the tents that lined the park, listening to music and indulging in all manner of victuals. In a brief turn around the square, I chatted with designer Dianne Rohrer, Terry O'Keefe, and avid 'Glimpsers' for The Sun, Sloane Brown and Colby Ware. The Sun's Sam Sessa glided by, no doubt chasing down a story. The Grand Hat Contest was scheduled for 2 p.m., but by 2:15, didn't seem to be starting anytime soon, so I made my way back to the car and alas, back to the office. Note: The Flower Mart will be going on tomorrow (Sat.) as well.
