Pier 5/Fashion Bash

Updated: Tuesday, July 30 2013, 02:30 PM EDT

On Thursday, July 25, I headed downtown to Pier 5 Hotel for their 'Christmas in July' party. The second-floor banquet space, which overlooks the Inner Harbor on three sides, was decked out in full holiday regalia, as seasonal music played in the background. Over passed hors d'oeuvres and an open bar, catering director Dana Clark explained to me that now is prime time for companies to book their corporate holiday parties, and thus, the theme of the evening's festivities. I did try one of the passed dishes-- a mini turkey potpie; it was delicious and certainly did put me in the mood for the holidays, even if it was 86 degrees outside!

Early on Friday morning, I headed downtown to the Power Plant Live complex, where Girls Lfe magazine was hosting their first-ever Back-to-School Fashion Bash. The all-day event featured booths, meet-and-greets with teen celebrities, book-signings, games, performances and a full-scale fashion show to cap-off the day. GL editor and publisher Karen Bokram took the Google Plus  video crew on a tour of the activities, which were broadcast live via the social networking site. Throughout the day, I encountered About Faces Spas and Salons' Helga Surratt chillin' in the Beauty Lounge with local PR maven Edie Brown. Olympic gymnast Dominique Dawes was signing copies of her book in the Kaiser-Permanente area. Fashion reporter Sloane Browne scoured the scene with photographer Colby Ware, selecting five young fashionistas for coverage in her 'Glimpsed' column. Cupcake boutique owner Lisa Schatz came in to check out the 'tween fashion scene. And live performances throughout the day included singer/songwriter Olivia Somerlyn, Jackson Guthy, DJ Alex Angelo, and singer/NichelodeonTV star Victoria Justice, who co-hosted the fashion show. Teen and 'tween girls (and parents) turned out in the hundreds to experience the day, meet the celebrities and see the fashion show. At the end of the day, all the attendees were treated to some super-sweet swag bags as they exited the event.
