TRAVEL-DISRUPTING SNOW POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY

A coastal storm will ride to our east, throwing moisture into building cold air overhead Wednesday. This means rain and snow mix developing for the entire area Tuesday night and for a very busy travel day on Wednesday. By the time it tapers late Wednesday, we could see up to three inches of snow here in the city, and maybe even up to four inches or so in places like Carroll County.

Racing at Timonium

Updated: Monday, August 26 2013, 04:45 PM EDT

The "Eleven Best Days of Summer" are upon us. (Personally, I like that an extra day has been added to what used to be the "Ten Best Days of Summer.") So on Sunday, a bunch of folks took advantage of the sunny, pleasant day and made our way out to the Timonium Fairgrounds to stroll through the midway, but our ultimate destination was grandstand at the fairgrounds racetrack. As a fan of Pimlico and Laurel, I always appreciate the added end-of-summer bonus of racing in Timonium. It's pretty impressive that this massive track and grandstand is maintained strictly to be used for a scant few days of racing each year. Post time was 1 p.m., and nine races unfolded over the course of the afternoon. Our motley crew included photographer Jim Burger, John Elsberry, writer Mike Anft, editor Eileen O'Brien, Denis Nash, Stacy Swann, James A. White, Tom Lopez and Michael Fishman. Yes, there was cigar smoking. There was wagering. There was crowdwatching. And there were beautiful horses. As for me, I won some, I lost some. And closed the day with an off-track bet on a horse running at Saratoga: nicely done, "Gentleman's Kitten."
