'Radiate' Pool Party at Clipper Mill

Updated: Tuesday, July 15 2014, 05:58 PM EDT
On Saturday evening, some 200 friends and supporters of Melissa Kirby gathered at the Clipper Mill pool for a chic pool party. Billed as "Radiate Love & Light," the party was a fundraiser for Kirby, recovering from a stroke she suffered several months ago. Overhead, the torches burned bright with fire, and the illuminated pool glowed. The pool deck was crowded with folks enjoying cocktails and offerings from top area restaurants. Over at the firepit, chef Spike Gjerde of Woodberry Kitchen personally grilled up burgers and sausages, while Food Market co-owner Elon Kotz served up sides such as slaw, pea salad and macaroni salad. Cunningham's Cafe & Bakery was doling out bourbon bread pudding, and other dishes were provided by Bottega, Tapas Teatro, The Wine Source, Dooby's, The Local Oyster and Flying Dog Brewery. While a DJ spun tunes, guests could mingle and get a gander at the silent auction items, or sit by the pool watching the few who elected to get wet. I did my part by helping out at the sangria stand, ladling out white and red. In the course of the evening, I managed to catch up with organizer Jamie Campbell, as well as Bill Stevenson, Jessica Waller, Dru Bynum, Michelle Geczy, John Marsh, Jenn Marsh, John Davis, Paul Fisher and Matt Kirby. Aside from it being a gorgeous night, weather-wise, the evening raised $38,000 for medical expenses.
