Restaurant Week

Restaurant Week is upon us once again, and I always like to celebrate it by making it a point to patronize hometown, locally-owned businesses, rather than chain establishments. This round, we've dined at Fleet Street Kitchen, Sotto Sopra, and last night, The Prime Rib. Great experiences at all, to be sure. A spectacular chicken dish at Fleet Street, silky homemade fettucine noodles with a three-meat Bolognese sauce at Sotto Sopra, and a perfectly cooked filet mignon (with smooth, creamy mashed potatoes and zesty, not overly sauced creamed spinach) at The Prime Rib. At a nearby table, a patron was celebrating her 96th birthday with family and friends, and the whole restaurant was lively and packed. The servers handled it all well, being the consumate pros that they are. (The only fly in the ointment: a few improperly attired customers-- thinking a polo shirt would pass muster here. C'mon guys, make an effort!)


And for those seeking to take advantage of the Restaurant Week deals while in the comfort of their own homes, there's now Order Up Baltimore (orderupdeliveryweek.com). A new-to-town online ordering and delivery service, you can peruse local take-out establishments, which are offering $10 lunch and $20 dinner specials during Restaurant Week. So now there's no reason not to indulge!
