Sail Baltimore Summer FUNraiser

Updated: Friday, June 14 2013, 10:19 AM EDT

On Wednesday, June 12, Sail Baltimore hosted a big outdoor party, called their 'Summer FUNraiser,' on the pier at HarborView and aboard the Tiki Barge. It was a hot, humid evening, but some gentle breezes wafted in from the water, helping to keep everyone comfortable. Another thing keeping folks comfortable? Watermelon juice cocktails made with our own Eastern Shore's Sloop Betty vodka-- which was my first stop. The unity Reggae Band played island tunes at the end of the pier, and food vendors from around town, including Bertha's, Mother's, Little Havana, Lebanese Taverna, Kooper's and One-Eyed Mike's, offered plenty to choose from. (Mother's: Who knew a simple little egg salad slider could be so satisfying?) In traversing the party on the pier I encountered Laura Stevenson from Sail Baltimore, as well as PR gal-about-town Dot Fuchs, banker Ned Walton, Greg Harris of Weinberg Harris, Tim Whisted of Little Havana and Sloane Brown of The Baltimore Sun. I strolled out to the end of the pier and stepped onto the Tiki Barge (which is going to a members-only model for its fun swimming pool this season), but of even more interest was the nearby docked Raw Barge. This handsome, wooden-clad, double-decker boat with open-air decks will soon be serving seafood of all types, with its patrons literally dining on the water. Look for the opening of Raw Barge later this summer.
