Schmingle/Liv2Eat

I had two stops to make tonight. First up, a brief flyby at Heavy Seas Alehouse in Harbor East for a "Schmingle." That's an occasional meet-up for local folks in media and public relations, organized by PR maven Dorothy "Dot" Fuchs. I was only able to stop by for about 45 minutes, but managed to say hello to Dot, as well as chat with Cynthia Glover of SmartWorks about some of the new restaurant openings on the horizon, greet PR pro Lisa Shenkle and tell chef Matt Seeber how much I enjoyed some of the nibbles he had prepared for the event. Then it was over to Federal Hill for a private party to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Liv2Eat. I left my car with the  valet and was greeted by owners Cecilia Benalcazar and Kevin Perry and ushered into the front dining room, where guests were enjoying wine, beer and an assortment of items from the kitchen. Events director Joanna Engstrom gave me a walking tour of the place, including the intimate walled brick courtyard out back, a great space for warm weather dining or holding a private party. Back inside, I spent some time talking to neighborhood residents Michael & Diana Fishman, who brought toddler Alden along for the festivities, and with magician Spenser Horsman. Then I had to sample one of the restaurant's signature chocolate chip cookies. They're typically served warm from the oven with a glass of milk as a dessert item, and always a winner.
