A FREEZE WARNING has been issued for the entire area Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.  A FREEZE WATCH has been issued for Wednesday night and Thursday morning.  With temperatures expected to fall to the upper 20s and low 30s Tuesday night and Wednesday night, sensitive vegetation must be protected or brought inside.

Summertime Cocktails at B&O

Last night I joined several other media colleagues to sample some of head bar chef Brendan Dorr's newly created cocktails that he'll be offering this season at B&O Brasserie. For an hour and a half, we proceeded to sip eight concoctions: the Coppertop, Dixfield Sour, Camden Crusta, Super-Tramp Pop, Oaxacan Sour, Grape Drink, Flora Americae, and a barrel-aged cocktail. Brandon schooled us in some of the newer trends in cocktails: crusted rims, soda-based drinks with 'fizz,' and barrel-aging mixed cocktails. My personal favorite was the aforementioned Grape Drink-- Bols Genever, Galliano, yuzu, lemon and house-spiced grape soda-- mixed and served in a capped soda bottle with a straw. It's fun, special and summery.

Then I headed uptown to join some friends at Johnny's in Roland Park for their new Whiskey Wednesdays. $25 gets you a four-flight round of special bourbons and some bar snacks (last night: fried green tomatoes and mini tacos) And, a donation goes to Helping Up Mission, a nice bonus. Sam Massa, a manager at Bin 604 Cellars was on hand to lead us through a tasting of the bourbons. My favorite was a nicely aged Blanton's. Not a bad way to end the evening while watching the O's on the telly over the bar, though I could have done without the 6-2 loss to the Rays.
