Torrey Smith Bowls for BARCS

Updated: Thursday, May 30 2013, 04:59 PM EDT

Last night at 6 p.m., the AMF Timonium Lanes started filling up to capacity as supporters of the Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter (BARCS) waited to greet NFL Raven Torrey Smith as he arrived with fiancee Chanel Williams. Smith lent his name and presence to the evening of bowling, a fundraiser for BARCS. Some 150 bowlers/animal lovers paid $100 each for the evening of fun, mingling with the guest Raven and, of course, bowling. Torrey spent the evening going from lane to lane to greet guests and pose for pictures with eager fans, then got down to some actual knocking down of pins. A DJ spun tunes throughout the night and Chanel even led a group of impromptu dancers in "The Wobble." BARCS supporters attending included Cindy Wright, Carolyn Griffin, Jen Carle, Sandy & Don Riesett, Fred Woods, Liam Fox and Kim Gurski, as well as board members such as Linda Robinson, Dr. Paul Fox, Kelly Pfeifer and Shari Elliker. My first game of the evening netted me a score in the 140s-- not bad for having last bowled 10 or 11 years ago. My second game-- well, we won't discuss that one. In the end though, the animals of BARCS were winners, due to the great turnout and generosity of Torrey and all who supported the event.
