Wiggles & Waggles Holiday Happy Hour

Updated: Thursday, December 19 2013, 11:24 AM EST

The setting for this pet-centric holiday happy hour was Chazz: A Bronx Original in Harbor East. Event organizers Lisa Shenkle and Dot Fuchs always arrange a happy hour around the holidays to get together with media friends as well as to raise awareness for animal rescue causes-- and it's always a nice mix. This year, the party raised funds for Rescue Well, a Baltimore-based independent animal rescue group founded by Christine Sandberg. From 5:30 to 7:30, some 30 people or so mingled over cocktails and nibbles from the Chazz kitchen: risotto balls, bruschetta and pizzas. After greeting the hostesses, I caught up with Deni Tabor, Fells Point neighborhood activist and animal advocate. And I had a chat with local PR expert Gayle Economos on the state of local media outlets today. But getting to meet Christine Sandberg was a special treat, and I got to learn a lot about this organization that she's built that does so much good for the homeless dogs and cats of Baltimore. Sloane Brown from The Sun was there to cover the party and after posing for a photo for her column, I got to spend some time catching up with her. Other folks that I enjoyed talking with over the course of the evening included Paul Yeager and David Custy of Baltimore Internet Radio. Also in the crowd: Jenna Kate O'Conner, Ralph Rizzo, Liz Chuday, Laura Gardiner and Valerie Avedon Gardiner. When that wrapped up, I strolled around the corner to Ouzo Bay to meet up with 'House of Cards' set decorator Tiffany Zappulla. Bartender Will was on top of his game, producing yet another perfect Maker's Mark Manhattan.
