TRAVEL-DISRUPTING SNOW POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY

A coastal storm will ride to our east, throwing moisture into building cold air overhead Wednesday. This means rain and snow mix developing for the entire area Tuesday night and for a very busy travel day on Wednesday. By the time it tapers late Wednesday, we could see up to three inches of snow here in the city, and maybe even up to four inches or so in places like Carroll County.

4H Robotics Participants Prepare for State Fair Competition

Updated: Thursday, August 21 2014, 08:32 PM EDT

4H Robotic Competition participants met Wednesday evening at the Carroll County Ag Center to prepare for the Maryland State Fair this weekend.

Four to 12 participants ranging from eight-to-18 years old are eligible. The young engineers have been building their 12-inch robots over the past year with scraps of metal, nuts and bolts. The finished robot is then connected to a computer program.

One student, Evan Phillips, says he spent more than 40 hours of intricate detail work on his robot which will transfer more than 50-golfballs to specified holes, which is the goal of the competition.

“I want to stay in the club for eternity,” said Phillips.

The Carroll County students will compete on Sunday against kids from around the state.
