After the picture-perfect day we had on Friday for the Black-Eyed Susan, Preakness day this year was a bit of a disappointment, weather-wise. Gray skies and a bit of a chill, though it didn't dim the spirit in the large crowds at Pimlico Race Course. I spent the first half of the afternoon in the Grandstand, hobnobbing with the likes of Paul Nochumowitz of Big Boyz Bail Bonds and wife Amy Sue, 'House of Cards' set decorator Tiffany Zappulla, John Hargrave, in town from Dallas, Patrick Byrne, Lou Licata, track aficionado Joe Alvarina, photographer Jim Burger, Mike Fishman of Quarry Wine & Spirits, {}Stuart & Suzanne Amos, Tom Lopez & Lisa Schatz, and Chris & Melissa Whisted. As the afternoon built toward the highlight race of the day, we made our way across the track to the Corporate Village. Stopping by the State of Maryland tent, we said hello to Christian & Lacey Johansson, then strolled around the greens and ran into Diane Macklin, Debbie Phelps (son Michael was out of town) and Monyka Berrocosa. After watching as Oxbow surprised the crowd by beating favorite, Orb, we headed back across the bridge over the track, and found ourselves in the presence of Gene Simmons of KISS. How random is that?
