Culinary Extravaganza

Updated: Tuesday, April 30 2013, 12:00 PM EDT

Another Monday evening, another food-laden benefit party at the Grand Lodge in Hunt Valley (last Monday, it was The Family Tree dinner-- see separate entry). This week, it was the 'Cirque de la Cuisine' Cuninary Extravaganza to benefit Meals On Wheels of Central Maryland. Guests sipped the evening's special cocktail, the Spinning Wheel (Tito's Vodka and lemonade), while perusing silent auction items, then entered the main ballroom, where 20 food stations awaited. Some of Baltimore's best chefs and restaurants were represented-- well-known names such as Jerry Edwards (Chef's Expressions), Barry Fleischmann (Innovative Gourmet), Nino Germano (La Scala) and Nancy Longo (Pierpoint). I sampled half a dozen, but the night's standout for me was from chef Roger Black at Ten Ten bistro. Tender pulled pork on crostini was excellent, but even that was outdone by his creamy mac'n'cheese topped with crispy corned beef. Fave dessert was a slice of classic cherry pie by Rodney Henry's Dangerously Delicious Pies. Wandering through the crowd, I talked with Laura Alima, Dara & Tom Bunjon, WCBM's Eddie Applefeld, Maria Fleischmann, Charm City Cake's Geof Manthorne, Rita St. Clair & Joe Sheppard, photographer Linda Johnson, and Wedding 411's Karen Buck.
