Five of the Most Dangerous Foods for Young Children

Doctors say children choking on food results in 10,000 visits to the ER every year. Five of the most popular foods for younger children are also five of the most dangerous.
The size of a young child's trachea or windpipe is approximately the same diameter as a drinking straw, making it easy for foods to get lodged. It's important to cut food for children up until the age of 5, but the AP recommends thinking about it for children up to 7 for the foods that pose the greatest risk. Those foods include; hot dogs, popcorn, hard candy, grapes, raw vegetables, nuts, even peanut butter.
Doctors say the only sure way to protect children is prevention: choosing foods good for children and cutting them up to small sizes.
