Gansler Calls For Manufacturers To Prevent Kids From 'Vaping'

Updated: Thursday, May 8 2014, 05:04 PM EDT

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found an increase in calls to poison control centers related to children who have ingested or inhaled e-cigarette liquid products.

The number of electronic cigarette shops in Maryland has tripled in the past year due to the growing popularity of vaping.

Some argue that e-cigarettes help people quit real cigarettes; and adults like the flavors.

Attorney General Doug Gansler wants manufacturers to take steps to keep e-cigarettes from getting into the hands of children.

"You can't market towards children," said Gansler. "You can't target children and you at least have to have the right labeling like you do for cigarettes."

Gansler has not received any response back from manufacturers.
