Indiana Woman Gives Birth to Healthy Boy, Didn't Know She Was Pregnant

Updated: Tuesday, March 4 2014, 03:45 PM EST

An Indiana woman went to the hospital for stomach pains only to find out she was having a baby.

Mandy Cox said there were no signs of pregnancy even hours before she gave birth to a healthy, full-term baby boy weighing 7 pounds, 13 ounces.

Mandy had just worked a full, 8-hour day on her feet on the assembly line at a factory when she began to have severe stomach pain. Her husband Josh rushed her to the hospital, thinking that her appendix had burst.

"We were in the ER and they thought maybe she had gallstones," Josh said. "She said, 'We'll take her back'. And then a few minutes later her water burst everywhere."

Even though it was her third child Mandy swears her body showed no signs of pregnancy, other than lower back pain, which she often has from working on her feet all day. Mandy said she had experienced some weight gain but assumed it was her normal wintertime weight gain.

The couple announced the 'surprise birth' on Facebook to the amazement of family, friends and co-workers.

"They were shocked," Mandy said. "They couldn't believe four hours after I got off work I had a kid."
