Study: Occasional 'Treat' May Help Overall Weight Loss

Updated: Monday, February 10 2014, 07:02 PM EST

A new study finds there is a natural weekly rhythm to weight loss and weight gain.

The study, published in the journal 'Obesity Facts,' says that people weigh the most on Sunday and Monday and they weigh the least on Fridays.

The study says people naturally compensate for weekend gain during the work week.  In fact, they say those who allow themselves a treat during the weekend may help keep them focused on overall weight loss goals.

According to the study, long-term healthy eating habits make some more of a difference than short term splurges, but it concedes that what sets people apart in weight loss are those people who remain dedicated Monday through Friday.
