The Baltimore International Academy provides its students with training in languages from all over the globe.
At the Baltimore-based school students at the school are taught a curriculum using the common core standards – just in a different language. Students have the choice of French, Spanish, Chinese and Russian, with a curriculum designed to provide them with a foreign language competency.
The school’s principal John Enkiri says immersion is key.
“It’s like when you learned to speak English - they are learning from being immersed 6 hours through the day hearing the language, they end up speaking it,” Enkiri said.
Parents told FOX45 that as well as learning a foreign language, the school has given their children increased reading scores, more confidence and a broader world view.
“She's extremely open to everyone and I think that is a direct result of how everyday she is exposed to new cultures, new people, a constant stream of visitors - visiting teachers - people from other places,” one parent told FOX45.
