Dawson Family Murder Ten Year Anniversary

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 09:12 PM EDT
It's been ten years since an East Baltimore family died after their home was firebombed. Angela Dawson and her husband both died as did their five children as a result of the injuries they sustained.

A neighborhood drug dealer torched their home after Angela refused to back down from reporting drug activity to police.

The family had already survived one arson attempt and refused to move even though city officials offered to relocate the family.

In 2007, the Dawson Safe Haven Center opened at the corner of North Eden and East Preston, where the Dawson's home once stood. Every weekday evening you can find 40 plus children at the center as part of an after school program as an alternative to the streets.

The Dawson's neighbor, Darrell Brooks, was given a life sentence without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to the crime. Dawson Family Murder Ten Year Anniversary
