He went from drumming in his parent's basement, to touring around the world with his band. Now, a Pikesville man is using his skills to create a successful business, "Bandwith a Purpose."
"Periphery" has performed live on stages across the world, but when his band went on hiatus drummer Matt Halpern came back to his parent's basement.
In an attempt to supplement more income, Halpern found a way to make money by tapping into his talent. He found teaching music lessons is much more lucrative online and began bandhappy.com.
Students log in for live lessons from all over the world and range from beginners to advanced. Halpern is able to monitor his student's progress while helping them find their groove.
The site now has 15,000 students and 600 teachers.
Halpern's website has teachers and students from more than a hundred countries ranging from famous artists to those who play obscure instrument.
