Teresa Bartlinski on Life Support After Surgery to Repair Left Atrium

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 10:11 PM EDT

Surgery on six-year-old heart transplant patient Teresa Bartlinski was completed around 4 p.m. on Monday. She remains on life support.

Teresa entered surgery at noon on Monday to repair her left atrium. The surgery was expected to last around 4-6 hours.

The surgery was necessary to correct complications which followed Teresa's heart transplant on Tuesday. Teresa's broken heart vessels were smaller than the heart donor's which led to the complications, her mother told FOX45.

The little girl has battled heart problems her whole life. FOX45 has followed her story since she first arrived in the United States in 2010, when she was adopted by the Bartlinski family.
