This Thanksgiving was a violent one in West Baltimore. One man was shot multiple times at Leakin Park and later died in an area hospital as a result of his injuries. This murder brings the city’s homicide count just one shy of 200 homicides this year.
Following the shooting several people are brought in for questioning and homicide detectives scour Leakin Park for clues.
The shooting happened just after 2:00 in the afternoon on Thanksgiving Thursday. Baltimore Police say a man was shot multiple times in the chest. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, leaving the homicide number in Baltimore City at 199.
Almost 24 hours before, 4 miles northeast, 22 year old Adonay Garcia-Wilson was shot in the head on Boarman avenue.
But the violence started on Tuesday night, witnesses say more than 30 shots were fired outside a restaurant. The violence left three people shot and a 16 year old boy dead.
Following Tuesday’s shooting Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake lamented on the violence saying, “The young man who was number 197, his life was no less valuable than number 9 or number 7 or number 97. I don’t believe that there is an acceptable level of homicide. In order for us to become a safer city, everyone has to have that belief.”
