Parent Accused of Kidnapping Son's Classmate
Updated: Tuesday, November 27 2012, 11:57 AM EST
The father of a Baltimore elementary school student has been arrested after police say he kidnapped and assaulted a child accused of bullying the man's son.
According to Baltimore City Police, Donald Shields became angry after learning at least three boys had jumped his 8-year-old son. Police say Shields' son pointed out one of the suspected attackers, an 11-year-old classmate.
Police say Shields then approached the boy, grabbed him, and then put him in the car by force. Investigators say he then drove off with the boy, detaining him by holding the lock button.
Police say Shields drove around briefly with the boy, cursing and threatening the boy, before retuning him to school visibly shaken.
The mother of Shield's son says police got it wrong. She says Shields admits to picking up the boy to turn him over to school officials.
Shields has been arrested and charged with kidnapping and assault.
