Grand Prix of Baltimore Setup Time Faster Than Ever Before

Updated: Thursday, August 29 2013, 04:50 PM EDT

Turning the busy Baltimore City streets into a race course is a hefty undertaking. This year the race organizers are putting it together faster than ever before.

From its first year, in 2011, to now the Grand Prix of Baltimore set up time has been cut by more than half – from 45 days to just 21. In 2012 the process took 31 days.

"The whole idea is to make the event better every year," Grand Prix of Baltimore Chief Financier J.P. Grant told FOX45.

Organizers say it's all about experience.

"The difference this year is it's very much a block-by-block process," Grand Prix of Baltimore spokesperson Dave Curley said. "And, fortunately, having a team that was here last year...the continuity there is really, really important to the time-saving that we're experiencing."

Curley hopes the two-mile track setup has as little effect as possible on the city.

"We certainly want to be sensitive to the people who live in the area, operate businesses in the area," Curley said.
