Jennifer Hudson Visits Baltimore to Promote B'More Fit Program

Updated: Wednesday, January 22 2014, 12:34 PM EST

Former American Idol contestant, Grammy and Academy Award-Winner and Weight Watchers spokesperson Jennifer Hudson stopped in Baltimore on Tuesday, to promote a city health program.

Hudson joined Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and representatives of 'B'More for Healthy Babies' to announce the expansion in Baltimore of 'B'More Fit,' a program aiming to help curb obesity rates and foster healthy lifestyles in low-income communities.

"Obesity during pregnancy is linked to a range of complications for both Mom and baby," the organization website states. "The B'more Fit for Healthy Babies program is designed to help postpartum women reach a healthy weight in preparation for their next pregnancy. The weekly group sessions include Weight Watcher classes, group exercise sessions, tips on budgeting and food preparation, and much more."

B'more for Healthy Babies is a partnership of the Baltimore City Health Department and The Family League of Baltimore. According to the Baltimore City Health Department, 36% of Baltimore City residents are obese, which is higher than both the national average (35.7%) and Maryland statewide data (28.3%).

Weight Watchers of North America is one of the program's partners.
