Perry Hall Teacher Called
Updated: Monday, November 19 2012, 09:25 AM EST
A faculty member that immediately reacted to an armed student is being called heroic by police and school leaders.
Investigators say a student pulled a gun in the cafeteria of Perry Hall High School this morning. Jesse Wasmer, the guidance counselor at Perry Hall High, rushed the student, forcing the barrel of the gun toward the ceiling. A round went off, striking another student. A second round went off, hitting the ceiling.
Thousands from the Perry Hall community have taken to social media outlets to show their appreciation. Anna Ala, a junior at Perry Hall, created the Facebook page "Thanks Mr. Wasmer." The page was created Monday afternoon and already has almost 7,000 fans, all praising Mr. Wasmer.
"He is a very brave person. Him thinking that he could save a student from being shot--another student from being shot, I think he would take his chance, even I'd he risked his life to help people at our school. I think it was a good thing that he did that, or else more people could've got hurt. I don't think other teachers would've stepped in if Mr. Wasmer didn't start first," says Ala.
The victim was taken to Shock Trauma and is in serious condition. Police aren't saying much about the suspect or the victim. The suspect remains in police custody and has been cooperating with police.
