Baltimore Mayor Outlines Plans on Public Safety

Updated: Monday, February 10 2014, 05:54 PM EST

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake outlined her commitment to making Baltimore a safer city, promising proactive policing, the establishment of youth centers for children who violate curfew laws and modernization of law enforcement technology.

Rawlings-Blake outlined the plans Monday in the annual State of the City Address.

The mayor detailed plans to implement Operation Ceasefire, which she said brings community members and law enforcers together to confront violent people. She said the program will offer such people resources and support so they can leave a life of crime.

Rawlings-Blake also vowed to establish Youth Connection Centers to deal with youth violence and provide a safe place for young people who break curfew laws. She said the program, which currently only operates during the summer, will be expanded to all year.
