City Leaders, Police Calling for Peace After Zimmerman Verdict

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 10:18 PM EDT
The city's police commissioner, Baltimore City Bishops, the NAACP and youth leaders are asking residents to keep the peace after a not guilty verdict was decided for George Zimmerman.

In a press conference held Saturday night, police said the goal is to prevent violence.

This is not the time for us to erupt in violence. This is not what so many persons expected. This is not the verdict, what others thought was coming down but this reminds us that there are senseless murders and death that are taking place every day and the response is not more violence and more death," Bishop Walter Thomas said.

City leaders said progress and change can be made without violence. City Leaders, Police Calling for Peace After Zimmerman Verdict
