Condition of Camden Yards Assault Victim Improves

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 09:18 PM EDT

Matt Fortese, the 25-year-old injured in an assault at Camden Yards during a Nationals-Orioles game is still recovering from his injuries. Fortese suffered severe head trauma and a skull fracture after being punched and knocked off a 5 ft. wall.

On Monday, Matt's family, doctors and those involved in the investigation gave an update on Matt's condition and on the ongoing investigation. They announced that his condition has improved, from “critical” to “serious.” They say things are coming back to him, slowly, and that he is trying to understand things, starting to ask questions and starting to recognize more people.

Fortese was attending the game on a second date when two male suspects, charged with multiple counts of assault, allegedly began harassing the couple for Fortese’s New York Yankees hat.

Reportedly, the suspects, Michael Bell, 21, of Annapolis and Gregory Fleishman, 22, began to throw objects at Fortese and his date. After the assault, the Hagerstown resident was taken to Maryland’s Shock Trauma Center in serious condition after being revived at the scene by an off-duty state trooper.
