Dalai Lama Delivers Message of Peace at University of Maryland

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 09:18 PM EDT

On Tuesday May 7th, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet spoke to crowds at the University of Maryland (UMD) Comcast Center.

The Dalai Lama's speech was called "Peace Through Compassion" and he told those gathered that violence does not solve political problems, but instead creates problems and unexpected consequences as well.

"Have some respect even [for] your enemy," he told the audience. “Shake hands, talk.. make clear what differences...what similarities...and I think both want peace!"

At the end of his speech the Dalai Lama placed a UMD visor on his head to loud cheers from the audience.
