Search For Caitlyn Virts Becomes National [FRIDAY PRESSER]

Updated: Wednesday, March 12 2014, 03:22 PM EDT

Police on Friday said the Amber Alert issued Thursday has become a national search. The FBI will become involved with the search from here on out to help police "broaden" the scope.

"We have not found Timothy Virts locally; we feel it is reasonable to assume that he may have left the state," a police spokesperson said Friday.

So far police have received "dozens" of tips from the public but none have yet panned out. Officials are warning people to not approach Virts if he is seen, but to immediately call 911.

"We believe he [Timothy Virts] may be armed, we certainly believe he is dangerous,” the police spokesperson said.

Baltimore County Police obtained an arrest warrant for Timothy Virts on Friday in connection with the death of Bobbie Jo Cortez, Caitlyn's mother, in Dundalk on Thursday. She was found deceased in a bedroom of the home with multiple cut wounds to her upper body.

Caitlyn was last seen with her father, 38-year-old Timothy Virts in Dundalk in a black Dodge Durango MD tag 5AJ4458 on Thursday morning. Anyone who sees them is asked to immediately call 911.
