Arrest Made After Abuse of Elderly Dementia Patient Allegedly Caught on Tape

A 58-year-old woman has been arrested and charged, accused of abusing a 92-year-old woman suffering from dementia.
Terry Freland, 58, of Frederick was charged with one count of Vulnerable Adult Abuse and 22 counts of Second-Degree Assault.
According to police, the woman who hired Freland to care for her 92-year-old mother in December 2013 began observing injuries on her mother in the last few months. A hidden video camera was then used to observe Freland interacting with the elderly patient.
The camera was placed in the victim's home on July 9. After returning that evening the daughter reviewed the video, which showed Freland verbally and physically abusing her mother, police said.
Freland has been transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center's Central Booking Unit for processing. The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information regarding Freland and the private care she provides to members of the community are encouraged to call Det. Joseph McCallion at 301-600-1022.
