Severe Thunderstorm Moves Though Maryland Late Tuesday Afternoon

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued late Tuesday afternoon for Frederick County, southeastern Montgomery County, southern Howard County and northern PG County.

"At 4:37 pm EDT a severe thunderstorm was detected near Aspen Hill or near Olney and was moving east at 30 mph," the National Weather Service (NWS) said. "This storm is capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph."

According to the NWS the storm was producing frequent cloud to ground lightning.

"If you can hear thunder you are close enough to be struck by lightning," NWS warned. "Move indoors immediately."

A severe thunderstorm watch, in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday night, was issued for Montgomery County Frederick County, Howard County, Anne Arundel County, PG County, Carroll County, Frederick County and Baltimore City.
