Teacher on Leave for Authoring Fictional Books about School Shootings

Updated: Monday, September 1 2014, 10:06 PM EDT

A teacher at Mace’s Lane Middle School in Dorchester County has been put on leave after administrators were alerted about two fictional books he authored about school shootings set in the future.

The eighth grade language arts teacher Patrick McLaw also goes by Dr. K.S. Voltaer and Patrick Beale.  Police and school board officials recently learned of a book he authored entitled, “The Insurrectionist” about two school shootings, the largest in the country’s history, set in the future.

Dorchester police say McLaw was taken in for an emergency medical evaluation.
Police also said officers swept the school for guns and bombs but did not find any.

23-year-old McLaw is also prohibited from entering any Dorchester County Public School; an action taken by the county Board of Education.

Police promise to hold a presence at the school for as long as needed.
