Woman Says she was the Victim of Bizarre Attack in Patterson Park

A woman says she has become the target of a bizarre attack in southeast Baltimore and the way police initially responded to the incident is coming under review.
The woman, named Jill, says she has lived in the city for most of her life. She was running along a very busy stretch of Eastern Avenue Monday night when a man carrying a homemade weapon attacked her.
Jill told FOX45 that she felt safe in the area because it is always packed with people on a summer evening.
She said she was running when she saw a shadow coming towards her.
"And then I could see something in his hand something like a 2 by 4 with a string some kind of manmade weapon of some sort. And before I really knew what was happening we crossed paths and he clobbered me with the weapon."
She said she screamed and ran into traffic where a Good Samaritan driving by stopped and helped her inside. She saw the man and two friends running away.
Jill then called police. Because the attacker never tried to steal anything, the officer told her filing a report was useless.
"It would just sit there and be more paperwork," Jill says the officer told her.
Police are now saying that the officer is part of an internal investigation because of his response and the crime has been upgraded to an "aggravated assault."
When other runners were asked how safe they felt, many take precautions like running in pairs.
"I don't trust the park at night," said Laurie Hopkins.
"It seems to follow a pattern of what has been happening here all summer with the same group of teens attacking people in the park," Jill said.
Jill sustained a severely bruised shoulder from the incident. City police said they could not comment on camera about the incident because the updated crime report is not complete.
