Comptroller Pratt Accusing Mayor of Making Illegal Purchases
Updated: Monday, November 19 2012, 09:25 AM EST
The mayor is in the hot seat after the comptroller accused her of making thousands of dollars in illegal purchases.
The agenda seemed routine but it did not take long before the fireworks erupted at the City's Board of Estimates. Comptroller Joan Pratt accused Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake of illegally spending $695,000 to purchase high-tech video phones for City Hall. The comptroller says the mayor bypassed the city's competitive bidding process in order to pay for the phones.
The mayor did not comment on the accusation but she did comment on the comptrollers complaint that the mayor dodged questions about the issue on Friday. The comptroller says the purchase violated the city's charter.
The meeting ended without agreement and will return in three weeks.
