A scathing report issued by the Baltimore Inspector General says the city overpaid for pricey phone equipment and intentionally mislead other city agencies about the purchase.
The 200 page report which will be released today also says private contractors working for the Mayor’s Office of Technology steered the purchase to benefit a private firm.
In a statement the mayor’s office say they have removed the chief of staff of the technology office and instituted changes in contracting procedures.
Controversy over the phone purchase erupted when Comptroller Joan Pratt accused the mayor of circumventing her plan to upgrade the city phone system.
