A look into the backgrounds of the 7 officers indicted on racketeering charges
BALTIMORE (WBFF) – After the indictments of seven Baltimore City Police officers were announced Wednesday, defense attorneys started sifting through cases the officers might be tied to.
When you look at the number of years these officers have been with the department it’s fair to say they've handled hundreds criminal investigations. Some of those cases are now in jeopardy.
Detective Momodu Gondo has been with the department 11 years, Detective Evodio Hendrix for seven years, Detective Daniel Hersl for 17 years, Sgt. Wayne Jenkins for 14 years, Detective Jemell Rayam almost 12 years, Detective Marcus Taylor for seven years and Detective Maurice Ward has been with the department for 13 years.
Some of the officers’ names have been in headlines before.
Back in 2006 FOX45 did a story about Detective Gondo after he was shot going home from work.
In 2009 it was Detective Rayam we were talking about, after he fatally shot a man.
The city later settled that case for $100,000. It was the third time in an 18-month period Rayam shot a suspect.
“A few police officers who I’ve already spoken with today, when they heard some of the names today, they were not surprised,” Commissioner Kevin Davis said at the briefing on Wednesday.
All seven officers have been suspended without pay.
