Gun Trace Task Force History: Accusations and Shootings

Gun Trace Task Force History

BALTIMORE (WBFF)-- As the corruption trial of two Baltimore police officers continues, FOX45 went into its archives to give context to allegations made in court testimony.

In 2009, FOX45 reported on concerns over city police officer, Jemell Rayam. He shot and killed 30-year old Shawn Cannady. This was the third shooting within 18 months that involved Rayam.

His fellow officer, Momodu Gondo, testified in court that Rayam shot Cannady as he fled because Rayam didn’t want to chase him.

In 2013, Crime and Justice reporter Joy Lepola told the story of the financial settlement the city approved, when Cannady’s family sued over the shooting.

Jemell Rayam also testified in the federal corruption case. He said Gondo was shot in 2006, as an act of retribution over a drug dispute.

FOX45 showed reaction to the shooting at the time, and the police response.

Rayam and Gondo pled guilty to corruption, and agreed to testify against officers Daniel Hersl and Marcus Taylor.
