14-year-old storm victim identified as Cockeysville Middle student
TIMONIUM, Md. (WBFF) -- A 14-year-old girl is dead, after wicked weather blew through Baltimore County Thursday afternoon.
A tree fell on a car and crushed the girl who was inside the vehicle.
The victim was identified Friday as Ahjee Lawrence, an 8th-grade student at Cockeysville Middle School.
Police said Thursday night she was in the car with her mother when the fatal accident happened.
Ashley Numbers, who was inside her home, heard the crash.
"I ran out, grabbed a raincoat and tried to help get the tree off the car," said Numbers.
Baltimore County police say the victim was sitting in the backseat when it happened. Witnesses say there were other children in the car, but they were spared.
"They had gotten one out already, their teenage daughter. They had gotten out from the back. But apparently, there were two more trapped inside. And the lady was hysterical. I mean, I would be too," said Numbers.
It was a fatal blow on Pot Spring Road near Gate Wood Road.
It happened as heavy rain and hail were blowing through during an afternoon storm.
Neighbors say the driver had pulled over, tried to take cover under a tree line along the road.
"I mean, it was a shame of what happened. Nobody really wants that to happen to anybody. Especially to a family who is just trying to wait out the storm," said Numbers.
Police say the victim's mother and two other girls, 13 years old and 16 years old, were also in that car.
They were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
