2 girls, aged 14, arrested after fight with knife at Howard Co. high school

COLUMBIA, Md. (WBFF) - Two 14-year-old girls were arrested at a Howard County high school after a fight involving a knife Tuesday morning, said Howard County police.

The fight happened at 7:15 a.m. at Oakland Mills High School, on Kilimanjaro Road.

No one was seriously hurt, but the fight, at the cafeteria, ended with two staff members getting minor injuries from trying to break up the fight.

Both of the students were 9th graders. They had been arguing and one tried to cut the other with a folding knife, said police.

The staff members were treated at the scene.

One girl was charged with assault, possessing a deadly weapon on school property and disrupting school activities.

Police learned the other girl also had a folding knife. She was charged with possessing a deadly weapon on school property.

The students will also be disciplined in accordance with the Howard County Public School System Student Code of Conduct.
