Arnold man, 19, charged in the death of his grandmother
ARNOLD, Md. (WBFF) -- Anne Arundel County Police have charged a 19-year-old in the death of his grandmother following an assault in October.
Joel Johnson-Liphart is also charged with the assault of his mother and 24-year-old sister.
Police say officers responded to the 1200 block of Taylor Avenue in Arnold on October 8, 2017 where they met with Johnson-Liphart’s mother and sister. The victims told officers that Johnson-Liphart got into an argument and began assaulting his family members, including his grandmother Doreatha Hoagland.
Hoagland was taken to Shock Trauma with injuries to her face, but her health declined and she was pronounced dead on October 23.
Police say the chief medical examiner ruled Hoagland’s death a homicide on January 20, 2018. Johnson-Liphart was indicted for involuntary manslaughter on February 2.
Johnson-Liphart is also facing first and second degree assault and two counts of reckless endangerment in relation to the assault on his mother and sister. He is currently at Sheppard Enoch Pratt Hospital.
Hoagland was Anne Arundel County’s fourteenth homicide in 2017.
