Baltimore man charged with attempted murder in Hunt Valley shooting
HUNT VALLEY, Md. (WBFF) - An arrest was made after a shooting in Hunt Valley, near the Hunt Valley Towne Centre, that police say was targeted.
The suspect was identified Tuesday as Richard Lewis Motes Jr., 52, of Frankford Avenue in Baltimore. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and using a firearm to commit a felony/violent crime. He is being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
The shooting occurred on a parking lot at the Delta Hotel, at the corner of Shawan and McCormick roads at about 11:11 p.m. Saturday, said Baltimore County police.
The victim was a 42-year-old man who is listed in good condition at an area hospital, according to a news release from police Monday.
"Because we do not want to compromise what is still a very active investigation, additional details will not be provided today," Sgt. Andrea Bylen, a county police spokeswoman, wrote in a statement.
Police said the two men knew each other and had a previous dispute. They encountered each other on the parking lot. When the victim turned and tried to walk away, the suspect shot the victim once in the upper body and fled.
"I have heard a lot about people saying this has something to do with the light rail," said police spokesperson Ofr. Jennifer Peach, in reference to the nearby light rail stop at Shawan Road. "It does not have anything to do with the light rail in this situation... It was just incidental that they [the suspect and victim] should arrive at the same time and encounter each other."
