Fire injures 4, destroys condo building in Perryville
PERRYVILLE, Md. (WBFF) - Four people were injured after fire destroyed a waterfront condominium complex in Cecil County's Perryville early Sunday.
The three-alarm fire was reported at 2:54 a.m. on Owens Landing Court, at the Susquehanna River.
The four people injured all had minor and non-life-threatening injuries; 25 people are reported displaced.
A 93-year-old woman was rescued from her third-floor unit and taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center by Maryland State Police Medevac helicopter, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.
The other three people were taken to local hospitals.
The 18-unit, 3 1/2-story condominum was completely destroyed, and two adjacent buildings suffered "extensive heat damage."
The total loss estimate is expected to be about $2 million.
Almost 100 firefighters from Cecil and Harford County fire companies, as well as Perry Point Veterans Affairs Fire Department, spent nearly four hours getting the fire under control.
The cause remains under investigation.
"This will be an extended operation and investigators will remain on scene throughout the day," said the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
