POLK COUNTY, Fl. (WBFF) -- A Baltimore family was among the five people who were killed in a plane crash at Bartow Municipal Airport on Sunday afternoon, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Police officials say that the Cessna 340 (twin engine) plane was taking off from Bartow Municipal Airport around 7:00 a.m. in dense fog when it crashed and caught fire.

The victims were identified as John Shannon, 70, and his two adult daughters Olivia Shannon, 24, and Victoria Shannon Worthington, 26, a Baltimore school teacher, along with Victoria's husband Peter Worthington Jr, a third year law student at University of Maryland and a family friend Krista Clayton, 32, a Jewett Academy teacher.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Shannon, Worthington, and Clayton families. This is an absolutely horrific tragedy, especially on Christmas Eve. Please keep these victims and their family members in your prayers," -said Grady Judd, Sheriff.

Further investigation showed that all of the victims perished upon or immediately after impact.

Autopsies will be conducted later this week to determine their exact causes of death.
