Baltimore records 319 murders, more than for all of 2016
BALTIMORE (WBFF) - Baltimore City clocked 319 homicides Thursday, surpassing the total number of murders for all of 2016. And December hasn't started yet.
Most recently, a 21-year-old man died after being shot at 11:20 a.m. Thursday on Aiken Street near Lafayette in East Baltimore, according to police reports.
A man was also found shot in a house on fire on Rayner Avenue, in southwest Baltimore, at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday.
Last year at this time, the city had 290 homicides.
The city's murder rate hasn't been this high since the early 1990s, when Baltimore had about 100,000 more people. Baltimore County's population surpassed that of the city in the mid-1990s. The city has continued to lose population despite recent efforts to stem the tide.
