Elderly woman killed: Arrest made in hit and run
BALTIMORE (WBFF)-- Anne Arundel County Police have arrested the man they say caused a crash that left a 90-year-old woman dead. Thirty-six-year-old Maurice Purnell Dorsey has been charged with manslaughter and drug charges related to the fatal crash.
Police say Dorsey was behind the wheel of an Acura TLX that took off when police tried to stop it August 22nd in Brooklyn Park.
The Acura allegedly accelerated when the police car activated its lights and sirens on Edison Street. Officers said they lost sight of the car as it crossed over Ritchie Hwy. Shortly after losing sight of that car, it was involved in a crash with a Chevy Cobalt at Morgan Rd and 15th Ave.
The passenger in the Cobalt, 90-year-old Helen Marguerite Kotchen died as a result of her injuries, the driver, 57-year-old Stephen Kotchen was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police say Dorsey ran from the scene after the crash, officers recovered suspected crack cocaine in the Acura on scene.
Friday, Dorsey was taken into custody by the Northern District Tactical Patrol Unit without incident.
He's currently being held without bail pending bail review on the following charges:
-Grossly negligent manslaughter
-Criminally negligent manslaughter
-Possession with intent to distribute CDS
-Second degree assault.
