Five injured in work zone accidents overnight
PARKVILLE, Md (WBFF)-- Maryland State Police say five people were injured in three separate work zone accidents overnight on I-695.
The first accident occurred around 1:26 a.m. when a passenger vehicle ran into a dump truck at a work zone near exit 31 at Harford Road. One person was taken to Sinai Hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.
The second accident happened a few miles West on I-695 at exit 28 Providence Road. Officials say two passenger vehicles crashed after failing to merge. One person was reported injured.
Just 30 minutes later, a driver and two construction workers were injured when a passenger vehicle entered a construction site EB I-695 at exit 31 in Parkville. Police say the vehicle struck an unoccupied construction vehicle and then two workers in the work zone.
Officials say one of the workers was air lifted and is listed as critical while the other worker and driver were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
All lanes were closed, but have since reopened.
