Grease blockage causes sewage overflow in Howard County
JESSUP, Md. (WBFF) -- The Howard County Health Department says a grease blockage caused 10,000 gallons of sewage to overflow into the Dorsey Run stream in Jessup.
Officials say the overflow happened behind 8205 Washington Blvd when a clear liquid was observed overflowing from manhole 676-8754 and running in the stream.
Crews were able to clear the blockage from the eight inch main from manhole 487-32 to 676-8755 and the overflow was stopped.
Officials are reminding the public to avoid contact with the affected area, though the stream is fairly inaccessible.
Maryland Department of the Environment will be notified of the overflow.
